Maybe the parts were completely different from each other, maybe the directors required something different of him. Maybe the quality of writing was better in the first one.
Why are you comparing actors with wine? And why are you assuming that because this actor seems to be acting worse as the years go by that all actors do?

Alas…old age takes its toll on all who face it …in many various ways. Youth is not aware of the price one pays to just “get old”. The benefits are many as well.
