Fine wine should be enjoyed without any other stimulation to the senses otherwise you’re not getting what the vinier intended you to get – the taste of the wine!!
Leave the pipe alone!

First enjoy the wine. Then when you have had enough or can no longer tell the difference between fine wine and not so fine wine, then enjoy your pipe.

I think pipe smoking and cigars kill a lot of your cilia in your nose and throat killing a lot of senses and take over your taste buds.
I prefer a light cig when I drink yummy wine.

Invest in a Vapouriser to smoke your tobacco. You get the taste and the nicotine but without the smoke and other chemicals. Either that or just finish the evening with a smoke after you’ve enjoyed your wine.

i really like a nice shiraz of all, i find that when i smoke just before a sip of the fine nectar that it does slightly affect the taste. I don’t smoke a pipe but hand rolled smokes, amber leaf with no filter i find quite nice , used to smoke golden virginia but found myself smoking more of it per week for some reason ..

There are many people who enjoy smoking a cigar while drinking a Port wine.
If the smoke from the pipe kills the taste of the wine….don’t spend much on wine you can’t even taste.

Hmmm, I don’t have that problem drinking beer and smoking my pipe. But I am wondering if you may be smoking your pipe to fast and getting tounge bite? Try slowing down puffing your pipe. Remember that if you have to relight then relight, its not a big deal.
