Wines Of Napa Valley
Napa Valley with more than 360 wineries is considered the heart and soul of American winemaking. This beautiful valley located in California is very small, yet where wine making is concerned it is very big. Napa valley produces more than 12 dozen varieties of grapes. The two most popular varieties of that Napa Valley produces are Cabernet Sauvignon for red wine and Chardonnay for white.
The Cabernet Sauvignon variety of grapes is used to produce the best red wines from the regions of Medoc and Graves. Chardonnay which is used to make the best white wines and white burgundies is considered to be the best variety of grapes of the Champagne region of France and is found in Napa Valley. When we talk about wines, we actually talk about the grapes that are used to make them. Here are some of the most popular varieties of grapes of the Napa Valley
Charbono
Charbono grapes, which were brought to California from France in 1869, are red grapes used to produce the best red wines. Inglenook, one of the oldest and best wineries in California started using Charbono to make the best red wine in the 1880s. Now with only 75 acres of Charbono grape vineyard left and most of it in the Napa Valley, it is fair to say that Charbono belongs to Inglenook and Napa.
The Charbono wine is a rich and deep colored wine with a spicy aroma. It is a full-bodied wine with hints of berry and roasted coffee. Its texture is like velvet and it has a cedar undertone to it. This Charbono wine can taste vital, fresh and young even after years of aging, the reason for this is because of the tannins, which keep the wine tasting fresh and young.
Semillon
Semillon though not so well known is a good white wine grape. This Bordeaux wine grape was brought to California and specifically to Napa Valley much later and only for it to be blended with the Sauvignon Blanc, which is a floral and pungent grape. Semillon on its own can make a good wine of a unique flavor and superior quality than the Sauvignon Blanc, but no region in France, which is considered the land of wines, produces a pure Semillon wine. California however has a few wineries like the Clos du Val winery in Napa Valley that makes pure Semillon wine.
Chenin Blanc
The Chenin Blanc grape is a functional grape. It is used to make many wines like Vouvray, Anjou, Saumur and wines that vary from crisp, fruity, dry to rich, full and smooth. California started using Chenin Blanc to make sparkling and jug wines, but in Napa Valley, Chenin Blanc is used to make fruity, airy and delicate fine wines. This was initiated by the Chappellet winery in the Napa Valley. The Chappellet Chenin Blanc wine is popular as being a wine of fine quality and a blend of aromas like green aromas, citrus with a taste of melon, peaches, spice and vanilla.

FOODIES ONLY: How do you feel about an ‘under 21′ server serving you at a ‘causal/fine dining’ wine bistro?
I own a casual fine dining small bistro and wine bar and have had some problems finding qualified and experienced servers lately. However, I have had a couple of eager 19 and 20 year old applicants apply who have restaurant experience and who quite frankly know more about wine than many of my current servers.
As a guest, would you have an issue with a minor describing wines or suggesting their favorites to you if you found out they were under 21 and ‘legally’ can’t drink wine? (the applicants have tried wines with their parents, or so they say…as long as its not in my restaurant it doesn’t matter to me where they have had wine tastings!
Would you discredit them even if they are knowledgeable because of their age?
Bottom line, if you were my customer, would you advise me to hire them or hold out longer for someone who is over 21??
Thanks for any insights!
P.S. it IS legal in Indiana for anyone 18+ to SERVE alcohol with a simple permit (which i, of course, would require)…it’s just not legal to DRINK the alcohol….so legal issues aren’t an issue! I’ve got those covered!

Crimean Wine Tasting, an Exotic and Memorable Experience
Crimea is famous for its wines, among which the best are produced along the Southern coast of the Crimea. These wines have absorbed splendor of Crimean sunshine and other favorable natural features; they are brilliant, tender and full of fragrance.
Crimean wine making has over 2 500 years of traditions, brought there by ancient Greeks.
Many of the actual brands of the Crimean wines have been created with the participation of the “Magarach” experts, and in particular white and red table wines to accompany rich and varied Crimean cuisine.
The Inkerman winery in Sevastopol region is known for production of fine wines; this is the unique enterprise of classical wine making, from grapes grown on the land of ancient Greek settlement Chersoneses (5th century B.C.) where wine making was first developed in the Crimea.
Crimea produces also high quality strong wines following the traditional methods of Porto, Madeira or “Sherry” type. These wines have taking part in international wine competitions since the year 1873 and the most demanding experts acknowledge that the Muscatel wines of the Southern Coast of the Crimea are incomparable in aroma, fullness and richness of taste feeling.
A fine golden colour of White Muscatel “Magarach” is notable for its brightness. Low alcohol and high sugar content, and special tenderness and sort bouquet with a shade of honey and a tea rose create excellent scale of feelings. The wine has been produced from 1836 and has 31 awards.
Sparkling wines produced according to traditional Champagne methods are here for festive occasions. They have been made in the Crimea for more than a hundred years. The internationally known “Novy Svet” (new world) winery founded by Prince Leo Golytsyn produces these wines according to classical Champagne methods, whereas the winery “Zolotaya Balka” in Sevastopol region makes excellent Champagne according to modern technology.
Connoisseurs prefer the collection Brut “Novy Svet”, and pay tribute to original “Sevastopol Igristoye”, with its aroma of tea rose and citrus plants with a pleasant refreshing taste.
Brandies too are made in the Crimea. Their brands are “Magarach”, “Ai-Petry”, “Koktebel” or “Khersones”. The brandies made by Koktebel plants, are notable for richness of their taste and luxuries aroma. Their brandy “Kutuzov”, matured for 25 years, is a real gem, with a dark and transparent gold colour. It is notable and harmonious taste and a magnificent bright bouquet with resinous-vanilla tones, slight shade of dried fruit and chocolate.
The Crimean wine makers are glad to offer you their production and to wish your life be like a magnificent wine – bright, sharp and fragrant.
Tempting cuisine and superb wines are the treasured traditions of the Crimea. Abundance of fruit and vegetables, culinary specialties of more than 80 nations of the Crimea makes our peninsula the gourmets’ paradise while the intriguing diversity of wines can impress any connoisseur. Taste excellent dry wines from the Crimean plains and mountainous valleys, savor exquisite champagne – type wines from the Novy Svet winery, enjoy the ports, sherries, madeiras and, especially, preserving the sweetness of the southern coast grapes for many years, dessert wines of the celebrated Massandra winery. The Crimea can cater for any taste: go to an expensive restaurant or just have a picnic in the picturesque surrounding of the Crimean nature; everywhere you can enjoy the hearty food and delicious wine.
We would recommend an excursion to Massandra palace. The experience of doing a Wine-tasting in “Massandra” winemaking complex (It was founded 100 years ago to produce wines for the court of Russian Emperor Nikolay is something out of the world.
Another experience we will recommend is a wine-tasting session in the “Magarach” winemaking complex.
Combining this with an excursion to the Livadia palace and having your lunch in the restaurant “Tsar’s cuisine”, and then top it off with an excursion to the Vorontsov palace.
You will now have an experience you will remember forever, and you will not only bring home a bottle or two from the complex, but a taste in your mouth that you will never forget. Combining this with the scenery and the architecture, leaves you with no other choice but come back again to visit this part of the world to get a better taste of its soil.

Wrought Iron Wall Mounted Wine Racks – 4 Ways To Add Style And Unique Appeal To Home Decor
Some people immediately envision ordinary floor style wine racks when they think of wine storage. These types of wine racks do not add flair or appeal to a room. Other types of wine racks are part of kitchen cabinetry, and in many cases they are not any more attractive than floor model varieties. They are comprised of plain wooden racks lodged between sets of cabinets, and others are simple openings that look anything but stylish. If you prefer storing wine with style consider decorating with wrought iron wall mounted wine racks. They greatly embellish the home while providing a practical way to display wine bottles.
If you want to add style and unique appeal to home décor, consider decorating a room in your home with wrought iron wall mounted wine racks. When placed on a wall in a kitchen, a formal dining room, a bar area, or any other suitable location, a wrought iron wall mounted wine rack will make a stylish and interesting display. Style options and sizes are numerous, and the decorating options are virtually endless. The following ideas for decorating with wrought iron wall mounted wine racks will explain various ways to add designer style to your home.
Wall Mounted Wrought Iron Wine Racks and Vertical Spaces
Wrought iron racks are ideal for mounting on areas other than walls. Any solid flat vertical space can be outfitted with wall mounted wrought iron wine racks. Consider hanging a wrought iron rack or a series of racks on the back or side of cabinetry. One wall mounted wrought iron rack looks impressive, but two, three, or even four wrought iron racks make an outstanding display.
Ways to Create a Stunning Focal Point
Whether you want to hang a stylish wrought iron wine rack wall display in a dining room, kitchen, or another area of the home, you can easily create a display that is sure to impress. Begin by choosing an attractive wrought iron rack along with accent pieces such as attractive wrought iron framed mirrors, wall vases filled with trailing ivy, or small works of metal wall art. The accent pieces chosen should compliment and highlight the wrought iron rack, which is the center of the display.
Decorating a Formal Bar with Wrought Iron
Whether serving alcoholic beverages or soft drinks, a formal bar is the entertainment heart of the home. It is a location where appetizers are served and where family and friends meet for good food, conversation, and most of all fun. A formal bar should be well decorated, and a wrought iron wine rack is an excellent choice. Choose your favorite wrought iron racks to hang on a wall adjacent to the bar, and hang them along with other attractive wrought iron wall art for a striking display. A formal bar is an area for leisure, and adding stylish wall hangings creates ambience that will set the mood for conversation.
Keep in mind that bottles in wrought iron racks do not have to contain fine wine. Store fine wine in a wine cellar or a wine refrigeration unit, and save the empty bottles including the corks. Fill the empty bottles with colored water, tightly replace the corks, and store them in a stylish wrought iron wine rack for a striking bar display. No one will realize it is not equipped with fine wine.
Decorating a Kitchen with Mediterranean Style
Mediterranean décor is warm and inviting. It is rich in color, style, and opulent design, and it is an ideal style for a kitchen. When decorating a Mediterranean style kitchen choose wrought iron décor including a stylish wine rack. A classy wrought iron rack complete with artfully crafted metal grape leaves and grapevines add tremendous appeal. Trailing vines gracefully wrap around bottles and complete the look of the piece. In addition to a wine rack, choose other Mediterranean style accessories such as a clock with Old-World charm, terra cotta pots filled with fragrant herbs, and beautiful fresh flowers to transform the space into the Mediterranean kitchen you have always dreamed of.

It is Just a Matter of Taste: Choosing a Fine Wine
If you think it is difficult to choose a fine wine for your self or as a gift you are not completely wrong, buying such a wine is something you need to do some research for. But when you know what to look for it is much easier then you would think. There are many resources you can use online as well as offline. But when you are looking for a wine for yourself the key factor is your own personal preference, because it does not matter if the wine won big awards and how highly recommended a wine is , if the wine is not at your taste it is just not for you.
If you do not like that award winning, highly recommended, fine wine, it does not mean there is something wrong with your taste it just means that you have not found the right type of wine. Wine comes in different types a Merlot, chardonnay, Riesling, zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon or others. If you discover that you are a Merlot drinker and someone gives you an excellent Riesling that is a real fine wine, probably the best on the market, don’t automatically assume that you will love it just because it is highly recommend. When a wine is not your type you will just not like it.
Affordable fine wines
Drinking wine is not just something only the rich and wealthy can afford, good wines have become more affordable these days. And this is a good thing there was a time that wine, wine tasting and wine drinking was just for a certain type of people, and there was a high ’snob’ appeal surrounding it. Luckily this is no longer the case. Fine wines can still come with a higher price tag then the wines that are considered ordinary and can be bought at any wine store.
Wines can win prizes for there taste and when this is the case, the prizes can be pretty expensive. But there are ways to drink fine wines for a reasonable price, for example you can join clubs that give you access to wines at a normal price than what you would pay outside these kind of clubs. Picking out wines from smaller vineyards can also help you with finding fine wines at a very reasonable price.
Developing a taste for it
When you are just starting with drinking wine, you need to discover what kind of wines are to your taste and you can do this by tasting less high-end wines. By doing this you learn what type of wines you like and don’t like. When you know what you like and you buy a fine wine that has the same flavors and characteristics but is of a better quality you will know what everybody was talking about for years.
Wine that needs to age
Some wines will become better when they are are left in the cellar for a couple of years, but when you do not have the right facilities or you do not have a wine cellar you should not buy these wines otherwise it is possible that your expensive bottle of fine wine will taste like awful vinegar when you finally open it.
